CHENNAI: To enable people to have an elaborate view of famous tourist places in the State at leisure, the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) has launched virtual tours on its website.

Currently, visitors can virtually walk through 11 destinations and this would be increased to over 50 shortly, Tourism Secretary V. Irai Anbu told reporters here on Wednesday.

Developed in a short span of 30 days, the virtual tour offers a walk through the Vandalur zoo, Mamallapuram, Yelagiri and Kolli hills, Yercaud, Iravadeeshwarar temple at Darasuram, Sri Brahadeeswarar temple, Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple, Rameswaram temple, Courtallam falls, Tiruvallur statue, Bhagavathi Amman temple and Vivekananda rock memorial in Kanyakumari.

"It is an innovative effort to provide life to the popular as well as lesser-known tourist spots in our State. Most of the times, hurrying visitors do not get a proper guide and are not able to see the spots in its entirety or fail to get a glimpse of historical site among other things. The virtual tour will enable them to have an enchanting experience and will also tell them what they can expect during their visit. We will be adding background music and other interesting features soon," Mr. Anbu said. Annually, nine lakh tourists visit the TTDC website. The new initiative was expected to bring more tourists to the website as well as to the State. People could have a look at the virtual tours by visiting the TTDC pavilion at the Food and Film Festival on Island Grounds till October 11.
